  • Year 4 Scottish Day

    Published 04/12/18

Year 4 have been celebrating all things Scottish following a term of studying the Scottish Highlands as part of a contrasting UK locality in their topic work.

The children came to school wearing something tartan, then tried some Scottish Country Dancing with reels and jigs before successfully making their own bagpipes and even playing a tune on them!

The day was rounded off in fine style with a Scottish Banquet consisting of smoked salmon topped oatcakes, Scottish cheese and traditional haggis with neeps and tatties! This was then followed by shortbread, tablet and fudge. It proved a popular event with our children and staff who enjoyed the day.

  • National Poetry Day

    Published 04/10/18

To celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 4th October this year we participated in Poetry Wonderland.  Poetry Wonderland is a national writing competition and is run by Young Writers.  Children were able to explore poetic themes in a fun and exciting way before writing their own original poem.   The theme was open, so children could decide what they’d like to write about.

After the competition has closed, entries will go to the Editorial department, who create regional books and they will read every single poem they receive.  The school with the best set of entries will win the Young Writers’ Award of Excellence, which we can showcase in our school.  The winning poems may even get published!
