In Year 5, we have been studying Emperor Penguins and the book 'Zoo' by Anthony Browne for writing this half-term. Initially, we learnt facts about Emperor Penguins understanding how they have adapted to live in such harsh climates.
During this half-term, our Reception children went on a welly walk around the school field for their new project 'Puddles and Rainbows'.
William Byrd celebrated Red Nose Day and dressed up in red to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday 18 March.
We celebrated World Book Day the whole week this year. Throughout the week children took part in many fun activities that really promoted a love for books not just for pleasure but for purpose too. The whole school including the staff got dressed up in their favourite book characters on the Thursday 3rd March, World Book Day, and everyone looked great!

In year 6 we have been investigating our circulatory system and have conducted investigations comparing our resting heart rate to our heart rate after we did exercise. We also investigated the differences in blood flow when the circumference of our blood vessels increased/decreased. We saw that the wider our blood vessels (less clogged!) the easier it was for our heart to pump blood around our body.
A big thank you to all the kitchen staff for their hard work in making a delicious Christmas lunch for everyone. On the menu we had; turkey/vegetable parcel, potatoes, peas, carrots, stuffing with plenty of gravy with chocolate cake for dessert.

On Thursday 9th December pupils and staff came to school in their Christmas jumpers as we participated in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day once again this year.
For Christmas this year we arranged 'Chaplins Mini Pantos' to come into our school and entertain our children from Year 1 to Year 4 with the ever popular pantomime tale of Red Riding Hood.
On Monday 6th December, children were invited to come to school dressed up as their favourite fairytale character, so they could enjoy a special Fairytale Ball and other fun activities during the day.
A huge thank you to Heathrow Rangers who helped us brighten up the space outside the school's main entrance and main school hall.
Once again this year each class decorated their very own Christmas hoop which have been displayed in our school hall for everyone to admire.
Children in Need at William Byrd was another great success this year. Children and staff were asked to dress up in their spots or something yellow and bring in £1 to donate to the cause.

Throughout the day children across the school enjoyed doing various Pudsey related activities and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We manage to raise £472.00!
